Four dolphins were shot
An article on USA Today online grabbed our attention yesterday: "4 dead dolphins found with bullet wounds" was the headline. The thought of anyone killing dolphins made us shudder. The spokesman for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, Mark Owell, stated that, "It usually turns out to be a fisherman." The dolphins washed up between Carlsbad State Beach and Oceanside Harbor between May 29 and June 5.
The agency is offering rewards for information, and if the criminal is caught, the penalties are stiff ones--up to $12,000 civil fine and a criminal fine of up to $20,000. If you have any information, contact them.
